Dear Parents,
The dance company requires a lot of hard work, time, and dedication, as well as an added expense. The dance company can also be A LOT OF FUN!!! We will be taking ages 4 and up to be in our dance company this year. In the 4-5 and 6-7 age groups, students will be chosen by the instructors in their classes. These students will receive an invitation to join the dance company in August. Ages 8 & up will have an audition scheduled for them. The students will learn a short, easy combination and perform for the staff. Students audition for dances that they are interested in (if wanting to compete in jazz; they will audition for jazz, and etc.) The dance company members participate in a lot of events including dance competitions. Results from the auditions will not only be based on ability, skill and technique but attitude as well. Dance Company is a fun way for dancers to meet new friends, learn unique choreography, and make memories to last a lifetime.
Dance Company Mission Statement
Center Stage is the home of a traveling performance company named L.A. Dance Xplosion. It is the belief of L.A. Dance Xplosion that strong commitment to self and others leads to the advancement of dance techniques and self esteem in dancers. Through traveling, competing and experiencing different genres of dance, we believe that all company members and their families will be presented with opportunities to grow as dancers, friends, and families.
Dance Company Requirements
Choreography will be done in Choreography classes separate from regular classes.
All company members will be required to pay a $10 company fee/ per month to cover the cost of extra rehearsals and most choreography classes. If special choreography is requested from guest artists, company members may have to pay extra to offset the costs of the choreography.
If planning to audition for company pieces, you must be enrolled in the corresponding company class in order to participate. (Example: if participating in tap company dance-must take tap class)
Auditions will be held for specific dances, NOT for company itself.
DO NOT audition if not planning on participating in ALL scheduled activities.
Normally Dance Company will compete in 2 to 3 regional dance competitions and 1 National event. All members are required to participate in recital. There will be other shows and performances scheduled; but we will try to give plenty of advanced notice before these shows. Dance Company also can travel to other places to do workshops and other events apart from regular classes.
All company members are welcome to take all company classes; even if they are not participating in company choreography for that discipline. (Example: Student wants to take Jazz but does not want to audition for jazz dance)
Company classes will most likely NOT have a recital dance. Classes will focus on technique and the advancement o skills of the respective discipline
Also, we try to do at least one fundraiser to offset expenses. Participation in these fundraisers are optional.
Dance Competition Expenses Example
Solo range from $70-$95
Duet/ Trios range from $80-$105 per group not per person
Groups range from $30-$45 per person
Travel expenses vary- From hotels, gas, food, ect. We usually try to book group rates for hotels also.
$10 per month for Company fee
$20 per child/ per competition travel fee
Costumes can be a little more than normal recital costumes, they average about $60 per group
Solos/ duets/ trios are generally more

30 minutes of Ballet

Petite Company
45 minutes of Ballet
Jazz company- Must take Stretch, Turns, Leaps, and Jumps class in addition to regular jazz class
Junior Company
1 ½ hours of Ballet
Jazz Company- Must take Stretch, Turns, Leaps, and Jumps class in addition to regular jazz class
Lyrical Company- must take the S,T,L, and Jumps class in addition to regular lyrical class
Senior Company
1 ½ hours of Ballet
Jazz Company- Must take Stretch, Turns, Leaps, and Jumps class in addition to regular jazz class
Lyrical Company- must take the S,T,L, and Jumps class in addition to regular lyrical class
Contemporary- must take the S,T,L and jumps in addition to Contemporary class
If not prepared to commit to these obligations, please do not be a part of the company. We offer a lot of classes that are just as difficult and that will offer just as much as experience as dance company without the added time, travel, and expense.
