                              Center Stage Recital Newsletter

Dear Parents and Students,

There is a great deal of information in this newsletter. Please put it somewhere prominent in your home or office. You will need this for rehearsal and the recital. If you have any questions, please contact us at 347-2171 during business hours. If you are interested in helping backstage or with

ticket sales during the recital, please sign up at the office.

REHEARSAL: Rehearsal will take place on May 23rd at Elba High School.

· No food or drinks in the auditorium at any time.

· This will be the dancers’ only chance to rehearse on stage. Your child’s practice schedule is attached. Please be at the auditorium at least 15 minutes prior to their practice time in case we are running early. We will follow the schedule very strictly.  You MUST be there early so that we can stay on schedule.

· Make sure that students have appropriate dance attire (no jeans or shorts) and shoes. This is not a dress rehearsal, costumes are not required!

· Just have a seat with your child in the designated areas and we will call each dance on to the stage. Do not leave young children unattended at the school!

· Dancers MUST stay seated until it is their turn to dance.

· Absolutely no running around in the front section of the auditorium.

· After your child’s last dance, you are free to leave at any time. If your child does not attend this rehearsal, they will not be permitted to participate in the recital!

Parents will need to wait for their children in the audience.  No one will be allowed on stage or backstage except teachers, students, and staff.

RECITAL: “Welcome to the Big Show” will be held on Saturday, May 24th at 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Elba High School Auditorium.

· Please take students to the back of the auditorium between 9:00—9:15 for the first show and 5:30 - 5:45 p.m. for the second show.

· Dancers and mothers are the only people allowed backstage. Absolutely no men or boys backstage at any time! All male students should be brought in through the front doors and dropped off at the stage area.

· Parents will need to present their tickets before preceding backstage.  Only one parent should go backstage to drop their child/children off.

· Public restrooms are located just outside the auditorium. Use the restroom before getting into your costume!

· Remember the last day of spring session is May 22nd. May tuition must be paid in full before the recital.   All outstanding balances will be due before recital.

COSTUMING: Please have students dressed for their first dance with their hair and make-up complete.

· Bring all costumes, accessories, tights, shoes, safety pins, hair necessities, and make-up backstage.

· We will have plenty of workers to make sure that all students get the help they need to change costumes.

· Girls MUST have hair parted on their right side with bangs gelled/sprayed out of the way, pulled into a mid-high ponytail  and secured with bobby pins or styled as told by the class teacher.

· Make-up is a necessity due to the harsh stage lighting.

·  No jewelry or fingernail polish will be allowed.

· All Company members should have the required hair style and make-up used in competitions.

DROP-OFF: Please read this section carefully as the rules for dropping off dancers has changed!

· Please drop your children off at the back of the auditorium by 9:15 a.m for the first show and 5:45 p.m for the second.

· Make sure you check your child in with the backstage director.

· Parents, you will receive an armband to pick your child up.  You must have your armband in order to go backstage.

· Parents will need to escort their child/children backstage and make sure that they are checked in.  Please then exit the backstage area to be seated.

· Parents must then enter the auditorium through the front doors.  In Elba, the school has 2 entrances to get to the auditorium, the cafeteria and the school’s front doors.  Both of these will be unlocked.  You will then have to go to the auditorium doors to go backstage.

· Dancers will not be allowed to leave the backstage area until the recital is over. I am sorry if this is an inconvenience, but this is for your child’s safety.

· We will have entertainment for small children and snacks and drinks for all students.

· Curtain Call for the dancers, team members, and staff  will take place after the last dance number. This is when the students and staff will be recognized for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

ETIQUETTE: Do not enter or exit the auditorium while there are dancers on stage. It is extremely distracting to the dancers to have people walking around during their performances. They have worked hard to put on a fantastic show and deserve a great deal of respect while on stage.

· No food or drinks will be allowed in the auditorium.

· If you have a baby or toddler, please consider choosing a seat near the back of the auditorium so that if you need to step out with them, you will not disturb the dancers on stage or other audience members.

· Please wait until AFTER the recital to make flower or gift presentations to your dancers.  DO NOT come up on stage until the recital is completely finished and you have been notified by the emcee that you can now make presentations.

TICKETS:  Tickets will be on sale this month.

· Programs will go on sale for  on recital day only. Please bring exact change or small bills.

· Doors will open at 9:00 for the first show and 5:30 p.m. for the second  and tickets (if any are left) will be on sale at the front of the auditorium.

· The auditorium will be cleared shortly before that time. Only dancers and workers with badges will be allowed to remain inside. You may reenter at the front doors with your ticket.

ELECTRONICSDue to music licensing laws and for the protection of our staff’s choreography, video taping is strictly prohibited at the recital. Captured Moments will be the videographer for the recital. His staff does an incredible job with the harsh lighting and audience noise.

· Please turn in all order forms and money  on or before May 24th.

· Still photos are permitted on Saturday. I will announce numerous times during rehearsal that no video cameras will be allowed into the auditorium during the recital.

· The students will be aware that I have asked that no family video cameras be brought into the venue on recital night.

· Security will be posted outside the auditorium doors to ensure that no video cameras are brought inside.

· Please do not bring any video equipment into the auditorium.

· I must also ask that you leave your cell phones and pagers in the car or turn them off during the show.

                                                                    Recital Rehearsal Schedule

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled practice time.  We would like to begin and end the practice session early.  We CANNOT accomplish this if you are not on time to begin your practice.  Also, make sure that all students are quick in shoe changes so that we can continue the rehearsal without delay.  Your child MUST attend practice in order to perform; but with this being said, we will not hold numbers because you are late.  Please make plans to attend and be on time!
