Dance recital helpful hints:
The dance recital is the end-of-the season production that showcases all our dancers’ hard work for the entire season. There will be costumes, glitter, lights, hairspray, make-up, and lots of excitement!!
When is the rehearsal?
The rehearsal will be on the Friday before the dance recital. It will be held at the performing arts center.
How long is the rehearsal?
We schedule certain times for your child’s dances. You just need to be there 15 minutes before your start time and must stay until your child’s dance/dances have been practiced on stage. After your child has practiced, you can leave. You are not required to stay. We attempt to keep these short so you and your child can go home and get some rest before the big day; but you are invited to stay and watch any other dances that you want.
Is it a dress rehearsal?
Yes, we have a dress rehearsal for the kids. You need to bring all your costumes and shoes for this day. Rehearsal is also closed meaning that only students and parents are allowed in the auditorium. Parents are allowed to take video and pictures (no flash photography) during dress rehearsal.
What time do I need to arrive on recital day?
You will need to have your child at the venue between 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. for the show. You will enter at the side door and check your child in backstage.
What are armband things?
We hand out armbands to the person that checks in the child for safety reasons. Your child’s name will be on the armband. When coming backstage, our workers are looking for the armbands to make sure that we don’t have strange people trying to come in. We want all our students to be safe. Therefore, we ask that only the person that will pick up the child after the show check them in and go backstage to help change them (if needed). No dads or brothers are allowed in the dressing rooms, and we ask you to not take the whole family backstage to the dressing rooms because they get very crowded very quickly! All armbands are color coded by group and dressing room. A staff member will come to the lobby after the show and take groups back to proceed with check-out by colors. Please wait for our staff members to meet you in the lobby. Please do not take children off the stage or from the backstage area without being checked out.
How long does the recital generally last?
The recital will move FAST! We work extremely hard to make it go as smooth as possible for everyone. The recital typically lasts around 2 to 2.5 hours. There is no down time. We have music sets in between dances and intermission music and video.
Do I need to stay for the whole recital?
We ask everyone to stay for the entire show. At the end of the show, we do a final curtain call for all of our dancers. We bring them on stage to recognize them for all their hard work. They take a final bow, and they are given a medal from the studio for a keepsake to commemorate the event.
Do the students have to stay backstage for the whole show?
Yes, we require all students to stay backstage during the show. No students will be allowed to leave the backstage area until AFTER the show has ended.
Will you have entertainment for the small kids?
We try to bring a few little coloring activities and things for the children to enjoy; but you are welcome to bring something as well.
Can I come backstage to help my child change?
ABSOLUTELY!!! But we will have people to help backstage, so you don’t have to come backstage! Just make sure that you have your armband on if you do. Also be courteous to the dancers on stage and the audience members and try to refrain from walking around while a dance is on stage. Also, if you want to volunteer to be a backstage helper, we would love your help.
Does my dancer need to wear make-up on stage?
Yes, we do recommend that the dancers wear some make-up on stage, especially blush, mascara, and some lipstick. The lights are very bright and can completely wash out the dancers, so the dancer’s faces are hard to see.
Who will watch the children in the dressing rooms?
We will have workers plus Center Stage Staff backstage to help watch the kids in the dressing rooms.
Can we take pictures at the recital?
ABSOLUTELY!! You can take pictures but for safety reasons you cannot use flash photography. The lights are already incredibly bright on stage and a sudden flash can blind a dancer. Please don’t use the flash on your camera. If you get any good shots, please tag us! Our Facebook page is Center Stage Dance Studio or Instagram @centerstagedanceal.
Can we record the recital?
No, unfortunately you cannot. Due to privacy and licensing reasons, we don’t allow the recital to be recorded. The choreography and music are all licensed and we must pay licensing fees. We do, however, offer high-quality DVDs through a vendor if you would like one. https://phpavsuperstore.com/shop/
